U.P.–Japan Investment Meet 2026: Building Uttar Pradesh as Japan’s Second Industrial Home

New Delhi | August 2026

Dr. Anshumaan Singh, Chairman of the International Business Startup & Entrepreneurs Association (IBSEA), participated as an industry association representative in the prestigious U.P.–Japan Investment Meet 2026, organised by the Government of Uttar Pradesh at Taj Palace, New Delhi.

The high-level engagement brought together more than 200 Japanese CEOs, investors, industry leaders and policymakers as Uttar Pradesh intensified its efforts to attract Japanese investment, advanced technologies, manufacturing capabilities and long-term strategic partnerships. The five-day programme, organised by Invest UP, was designed to connect Japanese businesses with Uttar Pradesh's industrial ecosystem through government-to-business and business-to-business engagements across New Delhi, Lucknow, Greater Noida, Agra and Varanasi.

The Japanese delegation was led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. The discussions reflected a decisive shift from diplomatic goodwill towards tangible economic outcomes, with emphasis on investment, technology partnerships, manufacturing, employment generation, skill development and innovation.

A Strategic Platform for India–Japan Economic Partnership

The New Delhi programme featured a high-level CEO roundtable and discussions around Uttar Pradesh's emerging investment opportunities. Key areas included green hydrogen, renewable energy, electric mobility, semiconductors, advanced materials, automotive components, digital infrastructure, startups, skilled human resources and tourism.

The presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji, Union Ministers Shri Piyush Goyal Ji, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji and Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji, senior leaders of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and senior officials including Invest UP CEO IAS Shri Vijay Kiran Anand Ji, underlined the strategic significance being attached to strengthening the India–Japan economic relationship.

During the engagement, Uttar Pradesh presented its combination of industrial scale, infrastructure, talent, market access and investor-friendly policies as a compelling proposition for Japanese businesses.

The official Invest UP communication emphasised the complementary strengths of the two economies: Japan's precision, technology, quality and continuous-improvement culture alongside Uttar Pradesh's scale, talent, market and entrepreneurial energy.

From Dialogue to Investment

One of the defining features of the Investment Meet was its emphasis on converting discussions into actual projects.

The programme highlighted Japanese-linked manufacturing investments worth approximately ₹3,191 crore through projects by Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation, with the projects together expected to create more than 10,000 employment opportunities. A proposed 500-acre Japan City at YEIDA was also presented as an integrated ecosystem for Japanese companies, suppliers and ancillary industries, aimed at strengthening supply-chain integration and technology transfer.

Invest UP has further highlighted opportunities for Japanese companies in manufacturing, electronics and semiconductors, GCCs, IT, defence and aerospace, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, logistics and emerging technologies.

These developments demonstrate that the U.P.–Japan relationship is increasingly being positioned around implementation, investment and industrial outcomes rather than dialogue alone.

Dr. Anshumaan Singh Highlights GCC Opportunities

During the roundtable discussions, Dr. Anshumaan Singh highlighted the upcoming GCC Innovation Summit being organised by the IIT Kanpur Alumni Association and discussed the Association's efforts towards bringing Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to Uttar Pradesh.

He also engaged with several participating delegates and personally invited them to join the upcoming initiative scheduled for 2 September at Centrum Hotel, Lucknow.

The discussion around GCCs assumes particular significance as Uttar Pradesh seeks to expand beyond conventional manufacturing and emerge as a destination for technology, innovation, digital infrastructure, research and high-value employment.

For Dr. Singh, the opportunity lies in connecting global businesses with India's emerging innovation ecosystem and creating platforms where investment can translate into entrepreneurship, technology collaboration, talent development and long-term economic value.

Uttar Pradesh–Japan: A Complementary Growth Opportunity

Uttar Pradesh today offers an exceptional combination of industrial capacity, a young workforce, expanding infrastructure, a growing startup ecosystem and a large domestic market.

Japan, meanwhile, brings decades of expertise in precision manufacturing, engineering, technology, quality systems, research and industrial discipline.

The strategic opportunity is therefore complementary.

Japan brings technology, capital, manufacturing excellence and global best practices.

Uttar Pradesh brings scale, talent, market access, infrastructure and a rapidly expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Together, these strengths can create a powerful foundation for investment, innovation, manufacturing, technology transfer, GCCs and sustainable industrial development.

As Dr. Anshumaan Singh observes, the objective should be to transform this complementarity into a concrete economic partnership.

The larger vision is clear: positioning Uttar Pradesh as Japan's “Second Industrial Home” and building a resilient, long-term Japan–Uttar Pradesh industrial ecosystem.

Meaningful Interactions Beyond the Main Sessions

The Investment Meet also provided an opportunity for Dr. Anshumaan Singh to strengthen relationships across education, entrepreneurship, industry and public leadership.

It was his pleasure to meet Professor (Dr.) Sibaram Khara Ji, Vice Chancellor of Sharda University, Greater Noida, during the event. Sharda University is a valued MOU Partner of IBSEA, and the interaction focused on further strengthening collaboration in education, entrepreneurship, innovation and global business partnerships.

Dr. Singh also had an insightful interaction with Dr. Bhupender Kumar Som, Director and Professor of Statistics & Analytics at GNIOT Institute of Management Studies (GIMS), Greater Noida, discussing opportunities at the intersection of education, analytics, entrepreneurship and industry.

He further had a cordial meeting with Shri Jaswant Singh Saini Ji, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Industrial Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh. During the interaction, Dr. Singh shared the mission and vision of IBSEA, which received appreciation from the Hon’ble Minister.

The engagement reflected the broader spirit of the Investment Meet: bringing government, industry, academia, entrepreneurs and international business leaders onto a common platform.

Japan's Trust, Uttar Pradesh's Strength

The U.P.–Japan Investment Meet 2026 represents a significant step in deepening economic and industrial cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has clearly positioned the engagement around tangible outcomes—new investments, technology partnerships, manufacturing projects, employment generation and long-term industrial collaboration.

For industry associations such as IBSEA, such platforms offer an opportunity to build bridges between Indian entrepreneurs and global businesses, facilitate meaningful connections and create pathways from local enterprise to international opportunity.

Japan's trust and Uttar Pradesh's strength can together shape a new chapter of industrial growth.

The future of the India–Japan partnership will not be built only through diplomatic relations. It will increasingly be shaped by business collaboration, technology transfer, investment, innovation, skill development and shared economic growth.

As Uttar Pradesh moves towards becoming a global investment and innovation hub, the U.P.–Japan partnership has the potential to become one of the state's most consequential international economic relationships.

“Japan's Trust, Uttar Pradesh's Strength — Together, Building a New Chapter of Industrial Growth.”
